Vuforia Engine 11 debuts this week providing further optimization to AR field service solutions
This week, PTC made a crucial stride towards the future of augmented reality frontline deployments with the debut of Vuforia Engine 11, the latest version of its SDK for developing custom immersive enterprise software for frontline working environments such as those in industrial and manufacturing industries.
Vuforia Engine 11 contains various new features that aim to boost AR in established industries and manufacturing markets with targeted tools for enhancing those deployments.
Zsolt Szalavari, Senior Director of Software Development at PTC, added:
This new generation of our best in class AR platform is packed with features to support both industrial enterprises with high security requirements planning to boost manufacturing with AR guidance and AI quality checks, as well as any developer to deploy global AR campaigns for indoor environments.
Vuforia Engine 11 New Features and Tools
PTC appears to have designed the Vuforia Engine 11 SDK with the future of work in mind. Enterprise deployments of AR services require nuance and understanding of working environments to deliver a seamless solution that reacts according to those environments’ challenges and specifications.
Vuforia Engine 11 includes a much-touted Enterprise Plan feature that improves object tracking, spatial navigation, and large-scale cloud-based AR experiences.
Furthermore, Vuforia Engine 11 includes new On-Prem Advanced Model Targets, a custom framework for identifying 3D objects or shapes that an AR application recognizes and uses to anchor virtual content.
This feature allows end-users to optimize AR workflows by removing reliance on traditional 2D image targets—such as posters or QR codes—and moving towards more sophisticated 3D spatially anchored models with more detail and information.
Vuforia Engine 11 developers can generate these model-based tracking targets locally without cloud training, therefore keeping sensitive CAD data on-site.
Additionally, Vuforia Engine 11’s Cloud Area Targets feature helps scale AY content deployments across thousands of devices operating across large frontline spaces.
Significant Partnerships Leading into 2025
The SDK update comes after PTC experienced significant driving forces, pushing the company forward with enterprise-solution deployment in 2025.
PTC recently collaborated with Microsoft and Volkswagen Group to implement a GenAI Co-Pilot solution that aids automotive software engineers in creating, managing, testing, validating, and releasing product requirements more efficiently.
Dayan Rodriguez, Corporate Vice President Manufacturing & Mobility at Microsoft, added:
The manufacturing sector holds tremendous opportunities for generative AI use cases, and we’re thrilled to support this collaboration with PTC and Volkswagen Group, both leaders in the industry. Codebeamer Copilot is a meaningful example of how generative AI can make a longstanding, complex process like product development simpler and more efficient.
With a focus on deploying emerging technology solutions to frontline workers in various working environments, PTC could very well be at the centre of a workplace revolution.
