Leaders like H&R Block, Amazon, Google and JPMorgan have fine-tuned their contact center operations to deliver exceptional service while optimizing costs. Based on these large-scale use cases and my own experiences in this area, here are four strategies you can use to make your contact center successful.

With the right tools and support, your contact center can not only attract the best talent but also get even better results while reducing the often-expensive overhead costs of a solely in-office team.

To keep up with customer demand, consider leveraging workforce management tools and unique staffing solutions to ensure you have the right number of agents scheduled for every interval. For example, one way to achieve dynamic scheduling is by utilizing a gig workforce that can effectively respond to peak times, holidays and surges without expensive overstaffing or overworking your current team. Empowering your agents to make decisions on the spot is another way to foster a customer-centric approach. Give your agents the autonomy to resolve issues without needing approval from higher-ups. In my experience, this can not only speed up the resolution process but also demonstrates your trust in the agents’ judgment, which can lead to higher job satisfaction and better customer outcomes.
4. Leverage advanced technology.
• AI, Automation And Predictive Insights
More and more companies are investing in advanced technology, particularly AI and automation, to streamline contact center operations. For example, Amazon uses AI-driven chatbots to handle routine inquiries, freeing human agents to focus on more complex issues. This tactic can not only reduce customer wait times but also help alleviate agent fatigue, which I have found leads to higher job satisfaction and productivity.
Another technology component to consider is the use of real-time analytics and predictive insights. These can enable your agents to anticipate issues before they arice and address the promptly, which can further enhance the overall customer experience.
• Omnichannel Integration
Consider integrating your various communication channels into a single platform, including phone, email, chat and social media. Keep in mind that your customers should experience the same efficient service across all touchpoints. Start small with omnichannel integration, growing one channel at a time to maintain consistency across all channels and leveraging customer behavior data to determine which channels to add first. Your consumer data can help you determine which channels customers most want to be present in so that you can provide them with the service they need.
