Join our EDVR Unconference on April 16, 2024, in ENGAGE XR, a two-hour anything-goes-informal conference exploring immersive education with educators, students, and researchers.
An unconference is a real-time conference where you dictate your experience by either asking questions or answering them. Educators in VR supports the serendipity of such an event as anything can and will happen.

We will be hosting the EDVR Unconference Stage with a variety of speakers interviewed by Educators in VR Director, Lorelle VanFossen, discussing their innovative apps, teaching techniques, and more.
Near the spawn point will be a large bulletin board for people to post questions and answers on any subjects dealing with immersive education.
The EDVR Exhibit Hall features booths with information on our various special interest groups, EDVR Teams, and topics dedicated to discussing World Building, Teaching in VR, XR Research, and so more. Many of our partners and associates will feature booths so you may learn more about their work in immersive education.
Since 2018, Educators in VR has been a leader in teaching teachers how to teach in VR. We help educators, students, researchers, schools, and businesses explore immersive education, from selecting and deploying VR headsets, educational world building, event hosting and moderation, and sharing the latest research and experts from around the world with you.
An unconference is an organic meeting of the minds. Bring your questions and your expertise and meet like-minded people to help solve your problems and push the boundaries of learning about XR in VR.
The two-hour event is free and open to the public.
We’ll be repeating it throughout the year, but each one will be unique, so don’t miss a single adventure.
Q&A Board
We’ve created a big Question & Answer board for attendees to post questions and answers with sticky notes. If you have a question, post it. If you know the answer, create a sticky note and stick it on the question.
It’s a fun and interactive way to get answers to your questions, but also find the questions, and answers, to issues you’ve not yet considered.
If a question attracts interest, we may do an impromptu session on it. Want to tackle one?
Exhibit Hall Booths
On both sides of the Exhibit Hall are booths representing Educators in VR Teams, activities, partners, and projects. Some of these will be “staffed” by spatial recordings of their members explaining the different teams and projects. Some will be staffed by humans.
We also have some topical discussion booths we hope to have staffed by experienced individuals sharing their insights and answering questions on world building, how to teach in VR, XR research, and more.
EDVR Unconference Stage
At one end of the Exhibit Hall is a small stage where impromptu presentations, discussions, and interviews hosted by EDVR Director, Lorelle VanFossen, will happen throughout the event.
Topics under consideration are:
- The impact of AI and XR.
- VR hardware deployments.
- Finding money: Grants and funding ideas.
- Producing educational VR events.
- Educational virtual world building.
- And whatever comes up.
On the other side of the exhibit hall is another stage for impromptu sessions. Want to start a topic? You are welcome to step up.
Join us at our first EDVR Unconference
Anything can and often does happen at an unconference. You never know who will walk through the virtual door bringing with them expertise and experiences you will want to know.
The best experiences in a traditional conference are often found in those “drive-by” moments meeting people in the halls or over lunch. An unconference turns every moment into a chance meeting for a new connection or a chance to renew an old one.
To attend, you may choose ATTEND on the EDVR Unconference on April 16 ENGAGE XR event site and a reminder will be sent to you in advance of the event. Check out our “How to Attend a VR Event” guide. We will have doors open a little before starting time to allow the team in, but you are welcome any time. No tickets, no charge, just opportunities to learn.
