Casey Vogel and Eric Gordon, teachers at Convent & Stuart Hall in San Francisco, share their experience of creating a virtual field trip with CoSpaces Edu.
Convent & Stuart Hall is an independent K-12 preparatory school in San Francisco rooted in the Sacred Heart tradition of Catholic education.
Every year, their 5th graders get to visit the Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum. Because of the pandemic, they couldn’t go this spring, so their teachers Casey Vogel and Eric Gordon came up with a creative solution:
Let the students create their own virtual museums to show what they’ve learned about ancient Egypt!
Project
“This project seemed like the perfect opportunity, especially given the challenges and restrictions of this year.”
Creating virtual museums allowed students to work in pairs but still be six feet apart. Casey and Eric first introduced their 5th graders to CoSpaces Edu with a few YouTube tutorials and the CoSpaces Edu gallery template.
The students then built unique landscapes, showrooms and exhibits of ancient Egyptian culture and its artifacts.
Result
“CoSpaces Edu turned out to be the perfect platform to create your own virtual museum.”
The finished projects were incredible! Students let their creativity run free — some set their museums in the middle of the desert while others put theirs on top of a ski slope.
One group even added code to their virtual museum and included characters reacting to the ancient objects.
The students had tons of fun creating their own museums and got to demonstrate their knowledge of Egypt in an entertaining way!
“Thanks to CoSpaces Edu, students were able to fully immerse themselves in this virtual field trip!”
Watch Casey and Eric discuss their inspiration and project experience:
CoSpaces Edu is an online platform for kids that’s used in schools all around the world and that can easily be used at home and on any device.
Kids get access to a creation toolbox to build anything in 3D, a visual coding language to program their creations, and fun ways to explore what they’ve created, including Virtual and Augmented Reality!
