You’ve stumbled across a mysterious leather-bound book tucked away in the darkest corner of your home’s attic. The worn gritty cover has the embossed face of a demon that always seems to be staring at you no matter what direction you’re looking from. Suddenly, a mesmerizing demonic voice begins to crawl its way into your head, asking you if you’re afraid. Despite the overwhelming fear, you reluctantly open the book.
This is the Book of Asmodeus, and it is the key to all Earthly lust and pleasures.
Book of Asmodeus is an interactive AR book that allows you to decide how the story unfolds. As you read the book, you are presented with choices that will let you move forward through the story. Make the wrong choices, however, and you may find your journey coming to an abrupt end, forcing you to start again at the beginning.
Asmodeus is one of the “Seven Princes of Hell” who specializes in lust. 5300 years ago Asmodeus wrote a book that gave humans the ability to summon demons into their world. If you’re able defeat said monstrosities, all of the world’s pleasures will be yours. But defeating them won’t be easy. In some cases, you’ll need the assistance of other demons to help you win your battles.
Each story arc begins with you choosing an archetype specific to you as a person. All the classics are there: the Jock, the Final Girl, the Fooler, the Nerd, and the Cheerleader. This choice will determine the type of puzzles Asmodeus will present to you.
What’s unique about the Book of Asmodeus is that it’s an actual book that you physically hold in your hands. It’s 100% handmade with artisanal binding. Looking at the book, it reminds me of items such as the Necromonicon Ex-Mortis from the Evil Dead series or the Lament Configuration puzzle box from Clive Barker’s Hellraiser movies.
As you turn each page, you’ll use the dedicated companion app to unlock twelve different demons. Rather than clicking on a screen to choose a specific creature, however, you’ll instead use voice recognition to summon these horrific monsters from beyond the realm. Just make sure you’re using your really loud voice so people around you will know that you’re dabbling with demons.
These AR-enhanced creatures are just one part of the experience, however. The companion app also makes use of your smartphone’s front-facing camera to transport you directly into the book, where you’ll see your own face appear on the pages of the Book of Asmodeus.
The Book of Asmodeus looks to be more than an AR experience. It’s a journey that merges the real world, the digital world, and horror into one single nightmare.
