New software update streamlines motion capture with native anatomy models and simplified workflows for enhanced accuracy in VR and RT3D experiences
Avatar-led immersive experiences rely heavily on realistic and nuanced character animation, alongside high-quality virtual environments and objects. This has led to RT3D engines like Unreal, Unity, and others becoming a bedrock in creating the foundation of VR applications, from gaming to enterprise use cases.
A new advancement in this space comes from Movella, which recently announced the release of Xsens Animate 2025, a software update for RT3D animation workflows. This update introduces features designed to enhance accuracy, simplify workflows, and optimise project turnarounds.
Anthony Romero, Senior Product Manager at Movella, added:
With the next generation of mocap, we want customers to focus on the performance, not the technology. This means making the setup, recording, and editing processes as simple as possible, which Xsens Animate 2025 helps to do.
Streamlined Setup for Faster Capture
Xsens Animate 2025 introduces inertial motion capture’s first native male and female anatomy models, alongside the legacy original model, carrying profound implications for the realism of animated characters-alongside a dedicated spine model for further realism and user immersion.
Movella has introduced an experimental feature called ‘Auto Sensor Mapping’ for the Awinda system. This feature eliminates the need for precise placement of the 17 inertial sensors. Instead, the software recognizes the positions of the sensors and automatically assigns them to the correct body segments.
With the update, Movella additionally concentrated on simplifying the motion capture setup process by introducing the experimental ‘Auto Sensor Mapping’ feature for the Awinda system. Moreover, the update includes a redesigned user interface that prioritises clarity and efficiency, which Movella developed based on feedback from its clientele, featuring a simple design, dark mode option, and colored backgrounds.
Romero also added:
Xsens gives its users freedom when creating motion capture data, without sacrificing the quality. We want to improve this further by consistently updating our tech and remaining the best-in-class mocap solution.
Movella’s latest software update looks to equip XR and RT3D creators to achieve enhanced anatomical accuracy while also reducing post-production work, “we listened to our current users’ comments and made sure Xsens Animate spoke to those who worked with the technology on a day-to-day basis. The most important factor for us is to have our customers set up Xsens in minutes, not hours, to create realistic productions,” Romero remarked.
Movelle’s platform update empowers creative professionals from the film industry, gaming industry, entertainment, and XR industry; highlighting Movella’s commitment to innovation and its understanding of the evolving needs of content creators in an increasingly immersive world.
