In the near future, physical bank branches could be replaced with fully virtual experiences, on both the user and company end. For customers, this might mean accessing their account information through an interactive heads-up display on their smart glasses. While smart glasses are not yet ready for the masses, similar ideas have been implemented using smartphone AR tech already. For example, Westpac Bank in Australia lets customers use their app to see an interactive AR summary of their account by scanning their bank card.

AR and MR software like this would allow users freedom, control, and convenience over their banking experience. They could access any account information they needed to at any time, from anywhere. This is an important feature to make note of because customers have been proven to view financial institutions as more trustworthy if they feel they are in control of their own data and experience.

On the corporate side of things, mixed reality could allow banks to operate fully virtually and remotely, with limited physical locations. This is made possible by applying today’s remote work solutions to tomorrow’s MR technology. Meta’s (formerly Facebook) Horizons Workrooms is one example, providing a virtual office space that can be accessed from a variety of devices.

One day, this technology could take remote work to an entirely new level. Customer service specialists and accountants, for example, might meet with clients virtually and use AR to help them navigate their finances, all without either person ever leaving the comfort of their own home.

This new style of marketing could become the go-to for fully virtual banks one day.

3. Tutorials and Training Could Come to Life with AR

AR has proven highly useful for training employees on the job in everything from medicine to warehouse stocking. It allows users to see virtual mock-ups of what they are learning, building, or repairing, projected onto their actual world. This makes learning much more efficient than referring to a book or even video for guidance, especially when smart glasses are available for a fully hands-free experience.

There are multiple opportunities for applying this technology in the banking world. For example, financial institutions could use AR to remotely walk customers through doing their taxes or navigating their online accounts. A customer service technician could see a copy of the customer’s screen, circle the correct button or menu for them, and have their notes displayed on the customer’s screen, as well, all through the power of AR.

The same concepts apply on the corporate side, where new team members could learn rapidly and accurately on the job with AR and MR around to guide them, like an automated, personal instructor. This has the added benefit of freeing up more experienced personnel to focus on their own jobs instead of taking time out of their schedules to train new employees.

Hypothekarbank Lenzburg: Lusee kreiert neuartige Kundenerlebnisse

Nach mehrjähriger Entwicklungsarbeit erhält die interaktive Beratungsplattform Lusee eine eigene Firma. Das Startup wird die Technologie für neuartige User Experience für Beratungen im Finanzsektor und in anderen Branchen entwickeln und vertreiben.

In den vergangenen fünf Jahren haben Fachleute der Universität Zürich, der Fachhochschule Nordwestschweiz und der Hypothekarbank Lenzburg unter der Bezeichnung «Livepaper» eine neuartige Interaktionsplattform für Beratungssituationen entwickelt. Nach einer ersten erfolgreichen Anwendung im Bankbereich hat die Hypothekarbank Lenzburg über ihre Tochtergesellschaft HBL Finanz AG nun die Lusee AG gegründet.

«Mit einer einzigartigen Mixed-Reality-Lösung, die verschiedene Technologien zu einem neuen Kundenerlebnis verschmilzt, schafft Lusee für Beratungssituationen in verschiedenen Bereichen inhaltlichen Mehrwert. Das Kundenerlebnis wird intensiviert und die Beratung durchgängig digitalisiert», sagt Andreas Kunzmann, CEO der Lusee AG und Verwaltungsrat der Hypothekarbank Lenzburg.

Vorteile der realen und digitalen Welt

Die Technologie von Lusee besteht aus verschiedenen Hardware-Komponenten wie einem Personal Computer, einem hochauflösenden Beamer und verschiedenen Sensoren für das sogenannte Motion Tracking inklusive Handschrifterkennung. Über verschiedene Interaktionselemente (Tokens) kann der Berater mit dem System interagieren und so auf den Kunden abgestimmte Inhalte auf verschiedene Medien wie auf eine Tischplatte oder auf ein Blatt Papier über den Beamer projizieren lassen.

Denkbar sind verschiedene Endnutzer-Anwendungen. Lusee liefert dazu das Software-Framework. Im Fall der Hypothekarbank Lenzburg ist eine App für die Hypothekarkreditberatung im Einsatz. Andere Apps von Drittentwicklern für ganz unterschiedliche Services lassen sich ebenfalls in das Lusee-Framework integrieren.

Wow-Effekt im richtigen Moment

«Durch die Verwendung verschiedener Medien können die Kunden komplexe Themen schneller und besser verstehen und die Ergebnisse länger im Gedächtnis behalten», sagt Mehmet Kilic, der als UX-Experte bei der Hypothekarbank Lenzburg das Lusee-Projekt begleitet. Der Berater könne seinen persönlichen Beratungsstil beibehalten und an die individuellen Kundenbedürfnisse anpassen.

«Lusee kann in den verschiedensten Branchen in vielen Beratungssituationen eingesetzt werden», sagt Ulrike Schock, operative Chefin (COO) der Lusee AG. Vorstellbar seien sowohl kollaborative Beratungssituationen wie auch Self-Service-Anwendungen. Ein längerfristiges Ziel sei es, dass Lusee neben Banken auch von anderen Dienstleistern genutzt werde, die sich mit Prozessen zur Eingabe von Kundeninformationen beschäftigen und bei denen zwischenmenschliche Interaktion unumgänglich ist.

«Bei Lusee steht immer der Mensch im Mittelpunkt. Die Technologie tritt in den Hintergrund, sie ist ein unsichtbarer Helfer und bringt im richtigen Moment den entscheidenden Wow-Effekt», sagt Schock. Kunden würden heute eine individuelle Beratung und engagierte, persönliche Erfahrungen erwarten. «Lusee bringt die Vorteile einer digitalen Technologie und einer zwischenmenschlichen Interaktion zusammen und schafft so eine neue Erlebniswelt», sagt Schock.

High-resolution imagery and low-latency head-tracking brought people into a virtual environment. Additionally, a leap motion 3D controller enabled them to interact with it.

Milan-based bank Widiba is one of many institutions that have embraced VR. They used Artificial Solutions’ Teneo platform to create a virtual banking system. Using VR glasses and the Widiba app, account holders can go around the virtual bank. They can even interact with monitors or agents. In the virtual environment, they can check their balances and transactions. They can perform banking operations that they would usually get at a physical location.

Consumers can use their own words to ask questions. Teneo interprets the intention behind the query before delivering the desired outcome. It can also respond to the conversation like a human teller.

UBS: Wenn das Wohnzimmer mit AR zum Trading-Floor wird

Wegen der Coronakrise arbeiten viele Bankangestellte weiterhin von zuhause aus. Die Schweizer Grossbank UBS versucht nun, zumindest den Tradern das Gefühl ihres Arbeitsplatzes zurückzubringen.

Trotz der immer noch andauernden Corona-Pandemie versuchen Banken nach und nach, wieder zum Alltag zurück zu finden. Die einen versuchen es, in dem sie ihre Angestellten nach und nach wieder ins Büro zurückholen und andere bleiben im Home-Office.

Die Schweizer Grossbank UBS hat nun einen technologisch interessanten Ansatz gewählt, wie zumindest ihre Trader wieder in den gewohnten Alltag zurückkommen könnten, falls sie das überhaupt wollen.

Trading in der Pandemie

Wie die britische «Financial Times» (Artikel bezahlpflichtig) berichtete, hat die Grossbank eine Taskforce gegründet, die sich mit der Neuausrichtung der durch die Krise verwaisten Trading-Floors befasst. Diese hat nun einige Vorschläge für Homeoffice-Zeiten gemacht.

Ein Vorschlag betrifft die Abgabe von Google Hololenses an die Trader, damit diese ihre Arbeitsplätze zuhause mit der Hilfe von Augmented Reality nachempfinden können. Eine solche Hololens kostet im Einzelhandel immerhin 3’000 Dollar.

Bildschirme für das Gefühl

Die Chefin der UBS in Grossbritannien,Beatriz Martin, Chief Executive von UBS UK, erklärte der «Financial Times»: «Wenn die Leute wirklich nicht ins Büro kommen können, können wir dann eine virtuelle Präsenz schaffen?» Die Grossbank überlege sich nun, mit den Werkzeugen zu experimentieren, die bereits vorhanden seien.

Eine andere – wahrscheinlich weniger überzeugende – Überlegung der UBS-Taskforce war es übrigens, die Schreibtische der Trader mit Bildschirmen auszustatten, auf denen Live-Feeds ihrer Büro-Nachbarn zu sehen sind, damit das Gemeinschaftsgefühl nicht verloren geht.

Augment Reality immer noch Zukunftsmusik

Die UBS ist nicht die erste Grossbank, die mit der Hololens experimentiert. So zog die amerikanische Citigroup den Einsatz von HoloLens-Headsets für Händler in Erwägung (Video unten). Vor vier Jahren entwickelte sie eine Augmented-Reality-Workstation, die 3D-Hologramme und Echtzeit-Finanzdaten kombinierte.

Laut «Financial Times» wurde das Citi-System für den Einsatz bei Grosskunden konzipiert, die mit den Händlern der Bank interagieren und riesige Grafiken in ihre Büros projizieren lassen konnten. Doch die US-Bank führte die Headsets letztlich nicht ein, da die Technologie nach Aussage einer Person, die über die Pläne informiert wurde, in Bezug auf Displaygrösse, Rechenleistung und Akkulaufzeit zu begrenzt war.
