Intensiv eintauchen

Im Rahmen des „LuxFilmFest“ wird erneut auf virtuelle Realität gesetzt, diesmal im neimënster

Die Grenzen zwischen Virtualität und Realität verschwimmen dank neuer Technologien auch in der Filmindustrie in zunehmendem Maß. Unaufhaltsam bahnt sich das Medium „Virtual Reality“, kurz VR, seinen Weg mit immer perfekteren Illusionen. Davon überzeugen kann man sich vom 5. bis 15. März wieder im „Virtual Reality Pavillon“, der zum vierten Mal im Rahmen des „Luxembourg City Film Festival“ organisiert wird. Diesmal aber nicht mehr im „Casino Luxembourg“, sondern im Kultur- und Begegnungszentrum neimënster, wo deutlich mehr Platz zur Verfügung steht. „2019 war ein Rekordjahr mit 3.000 Besuchern, was eine Steigerung von 100 Prozent bedeutet. Nach diesem großen Erfolg wollten wir uns vergrößern. Ein Umzug bot sich an, um noch mehr Projekte zeigen zu können“, erklärte Guy Daleiden, Direktor des Luxemburger Film Fund, während der Programmvorstellung.

„Für uns ist es etwas ganz Neues, VR hatten wir bislang nicht im Programm. Die Räumlichkeiten der Abtei werden auch von der Szenografie her so gestaltet, dass die Erfahrung wirklich vollkommen ist. Partner dieses Projekts zu sein, gibt uns auch die Möglichkeit, ein anderes Publikum anziehen“, sagte neimënster-Direktorin Ainhoa Achutegui. Den Besuchern wird derweil keineswegs nur eine VR-Brille aufgesetzt, vielmehr ist bereits der Pavillon n sich wie eine große Installation angedacht, durch die man sich bewegt.

Seit vor zwei Jahren mit „Finding Jakob“ (Samsa Film) von Olivier Pesch die erste luxemburgische Produktion mit der finanziellen Unterstützung des Film Fund präsentiert wurde, konnten weitere VR-Projekte „made in Luxembourg“ auf den Weg gebracht werden. „Im diesjährigen Programm haben wir gleich vier VR-Erfahrungen, die von luxemburgischen Gesellschaften produziert oder koproduziert wurden“, informierte Daleiden. Das Programm des „VR Pavillon 2020“ beschrieb er als „groß, ambitiös und komplex“, dies mit „den besten Werken, die im Laufe des letzten Jahres bei Festivals präsentiert und auch prämiert wurden“.

Interaktive VR-Erfahrungen

In „7 lives“ (VR Experience, luxemburgische Koproduktion) wirft sich eine Teenagerin vor die Metro und versetzt die Wartenden in Schock, den sie alle für sich verarbeiten müssen. Die umherirrende Seele der Toten – und damit auch das Publikum – taucht in ihre Gedanken ein. „Algorithmic Perfumery“ (Interactiv Olfactory Installation) spielt mit der künstlichen Intelligenz. Auf Basis der von den Beteiligten gelieferten Informationen wird am Ende ein Parfüm zusammengestellt. In „Cosmos within us“ (VR Experience, luxemburgische Produktion) taucht man in die Gedankenwelt eines an Alzheimer erkrankten Mannes ein, der sich verschiedene Etappen seines Lebens in Erinnerung ruft. „Das ist eine relativ aufwendige VR-Erfahrung, weil fünf Schauspieler beteiligt sind. Gleichzeitig besteht die Möglichkeit, das Ganze ,behind the scenes‘ zu erleben, also von außen zu beobachten“, so der Direktor des Film Fund. „A Linha“ (Immersive Experience) wird als „full-body VR interactive narrative experience“ beschrieben. Das Werk wurde bei der Filmbiennale „Venice VR 2019“ mit dem Preis als „Best VR Immersive Experience for interactive content“ ausgezeichnet. „Gymnasia“ (Animated VR Film) verbindet die Elemente Animation und VR und katapultiert das Publikum in eine Traumwelt.

„The Key“ (Interactive VR Experience) wurde letztes Jahr in Venedig mit dem „Grand Jury Prize for Best VR Immersive Work“ und beim „Tribeca Film Festival“ mit dem „StoryScapes Award“ ausgezeichnet. Auch in dieser Geschichte mit starker Botschaft werden die Teilnehmer auf eine Reise durch Träume geschickt. „Sublimation“ (Interactive VR Experience) ist eine der ersten VR-Installationen des luxemburgischen Duos Karolina Markiewicz & Pascal Piron. Auch „Forest Lounge“ von Benigno Perez ist eine VR-Experience „made in Luxembourg“. „So bietet sich die Gelegenheit zu sehen, was auch wir hier in Luxemburg im VR-Bereich entwickeln können“, sagte Daleiden.

2020 rücken die Organisatoren ein VR-Studio besonders in den Fokus: „Atlas V“, eine der größten Gesellschaften Frankreichs in diesem Bereich. Vier teils preisgekrönte VR-Beiträge werden gezeigt: „Battlescar – Part I-III“ (Animated VR Series), „Ex Anima Experience“ (VR Cinema), „Gloomy Eyes – Chapters I-III“ (Animated VR Experience) und „Spheres – Chapter I-III“ (Virtual Reality Series), die den „Grand Jury Prize“ 2018 in Venedig bekam. Neben diesen „Virtual Reality“-Erfahrungen laufen sechs, jeweils rund 30-minütige Filme im VR-Kino.

„Die diesjährige Auflage mit ihrem umfangreichen Programm sehen wir als Test. Wir möchten zeigen, was inzwischen alles möglich ist und herausfinden, ob das Publikum mitmacht. Wir sind zwar nicht der Ansicht, dass die virtuelle und die gesteigerte Realität bald ganz allein die Zukunft bestimmen werden, dennoch dürfen wir die Entwicklung nicht verpassen und müssen als Film Fund unsere Produktionsgesellschaften in der Vorbereitung darauf unterstützen“, so Daleiden. Zum wiederholten Mal wird deshalb auch ein Tag für die Professionellen organisiert. Beim VR-Day am 6. März werden ausländische Experten im Austausch mit den heimischen Gesellschaften über die Herausforderungen und bisherigen Erfahrungen diskutieren.

Offiziell eröffnet wird der VR-Pavillon am Abend des 4. März, um dann vom 5. bis zum 15. März für das Publikum täglich zwischen 10.00 und 18.00 geöffnet zu sein, das Ganze bei freiem Eintritt. Weitere Infos unter www.filmfund.lu und www.neimenster.lu
